Model Setup Checklist
Use this checklist when starting a new Revit project to ensure the model is configured correctly from day one. Fixing these items later is always more expensive.
Project Information
- Fill in Project Name, Project Number, Client Name, and Project Address under Manage > Project Information.
- Set the correct Building Type and Project Phase if phasing is used.
- Confirm Project Base Point and Survey Point are placed and pinned before modeling begins.
Levels and Grids
- Create all known levels with correct elevations and naming (e.g.,
L01,L02,Roof). - Delete unused default levels (
Level 1,Level 2) after creating the real ones. - Place and name grids following the firm grid-naming standard.
- Pin all levels and grids to prevent accidental movement.
Worksets (Workshared Projects)
- Enable worksharing and create the initial workset structure:
Shared Levels and Grids,Shell,Interior,MEP,Site. - Move levels and grids to the
Shared Levels and Gridsworkset. - Confirm the central model is saved to the correct server or BIM 360 location.
- Verify all team members can create local copies without errors.
View Templates
- Load or confirm the firm-standard view templates are present.
- Assign view templates to all default plan, section, and elevation views.
- Check that templates lock the correct parameters (scale, detail level, V/G overrides) and leave user-adjustable parameters unlocked.
Browser Organization
- Apply the firm-standard Browser Organization setting for views (typically by discipline, then type).
- Apply the sheet Browser Organization (typically by discipline code).
- Remove or hide any unused default views that clutter the browser.
Export and Print Settings
- Load firm-standard DWG export settings if CAD deliverables are expected.
- Configure PDF print settings (paper sizes, naming format) using Pyvoid's Print Sheets tool.
- Confirm title block families are loaded and sheet templates are ready.
Final Verification
- Run Pyvoid's ReViewer to catch any remaining setup issues.
- Save, sync, and create a baseline backup of the central model.
- Distribute the local file path or cloud link to the project team.
